Overview
The Sudeley Castle Estate includes a collection of charming Cotswold holiday properties, all a few minutes’ walk from the centre of historic Winchcombe and Sudeley Castle & Gardens. Excellent response to a minor defect in equipment
Comfortable stay and benefit of entry discounts to other attractions

The cottage is in a lovely setting, plenty of parking spaces & very close to the town. The cottage was lovely & clean & had all the amenities that you would need & we made the most of the weather using the BBQ.

Beautiful location and a very comfortable cottage.

Anne Boleyn cottage is spacious with a wonderful open plan kitchen, dining area and a comfortable sitting room. The kitchen is well equipped and a small outdoor area made it perfect for our stay in Winchcombe.
The decor is tasteful and all finished to a high standard. We loved our stay and enjoyed exploring Winchcombe and the surrounding countryside.
Free entry to Sudeley Castle was a great bonus!

Indoors lovely - outdoors disappointing

The cottage was in a lovely setting near the castle and handy for visiting other attractions and villages in the Cotswolds. The cottage itself was lovely and had what we needed for our stay. The facilities were also sufficient for our needs. It was such a shame that the outdoor space was overgrown with weeds and was not a pleasant space to sit out, which given the excellent weather we had was a real pity. We did point this out on the first morning but they weren't sure if anything could be done for that week. Also the outside table really needs some work or replacing as it was also a bit scruffy. Overall we had a good stay and if the outdoor space is cleared and smartened up would have been excellent.

Lovely stay

We had a lovely few days staying in Anne Boleyn on the Sudeley estate. Really beautiful location, and so nice to have free entry to Sudeley Castle as part of our holiday. Winchcombe is a delightful little town with good amenities (we enjoyed dinner at the White Hart, and a good takeaway from the Indian restaurant). It is also well positioned to visit the surrounding area - one particular highlight from our visit was Snowshill Manor.
The cottage is well appointed, with pretty much everything you could want in the kitchen!
One small gripe would be the rather poor WiFi available in the cottage. It is advertised as having WiFi and a Smart TV. However, we found the WiFi to be very slow (almost non-existent) even for just checking apps on our phones, and it was impossible to make use of the Smart TV due to constant buffering. This didnt impinge on our enjoyment of our holiday, but it might prove more of an issue for others relying on good WiFi.

Anne Boleyn Cottage .. Bolthole Retreats

Clean inside, furniture a bit worn. WiFi good.
Outside windows and frames badly needed cleaning.
Small courtyard to rear was a good suntrap in the afternoon, however covered in weeds and moss.
Needs a good clean and brush down.

Cottage nicely presented and comfortable

We have stayed at this location a number of times over the years. This particular cottage has been upgraded and is very pleasant indeed. We even had a Christmas tree. Sudeley Castle is nearby and we attended the light show just before Christmas. Winchcombe always interesting. We spent five days over Christmas and enjoyed it all.

A Very comfortable cottage

There was everything that you could possible need for a short or long vacation in the cottage. It was ideally situated, very close to Winchcombes high street, so that in the evening you had a choice of pubs to walk to for dinner. It was very dog friendly, with superb walks within minutes of the door. We experienced biblical rain, but felt very happy and cosy to stay indoors.
We extended our stay, and have also booked a return visit during the NewYear holiday.
The communication with Bolthole was excellant.

Lovely place to stay

Very close to castle and a lovely place to stay, just one thing stopping a review of 5 is the bathroom. Shower head kept falling off its stand which needs looking at as soon as possible and the grouting needs to be retouch as its not very nice to see in shower

A comfortable and well cottage

Lovely cottage and setting. Bedrooms and beds comfortable. Kitchen well equipped. Seating in sitting room could be firmer and high but just our preference. Agent very helpful we had to adjust the names of people who were accompanying us a week before, this was done with no fuss. Thank you. There is adequate parking at the rear of the property for 2 cars.
The cottage is very close to the village with plenty of places for a meal out, and food shops for catering ar the cottage.

A hidden gem

Searching for a much-needed break, I had almost given up when Bolthole Retreats popped up with Anne Boleyn Cottage I have always been obsessed with Anne Boleyn so I felt it was meant to be. ( and it was dog- friendly )
The cottage was well equipped with everything one needed. The welcome back was a nice touch and the cottage itself was spacious and tastefully decorated. Situated in the grounds of Sudeley Castle ( to which we had free access) I couldnt believe how near it was to the beautiful town of Winchcombe or the castle and beautiful walks. The only downside for me was that check in was from 4 p m so most of our first day had gone. Other than that, all was wonderful
Dianne Evans
Excellent 5* you wont be disappointed.

The cottage was excellent. All the extra little touches, welcome pack, milk, tea and coffee pods were all very welcoming after a journey even down to the mints and torches!
Position was good to see the cotswolds and being able to walk to the castle was a bonus. We would definitely recommend this property and Im sure we will return.

Peaceful setting

Lovely spacious cottage, very clean and tidy, ample towels, and toiletries, only downside is that the settee could do with a deep clean.
Very quiet, excellent location with private parking. Few minutes walk to Winchcombe high street, and easy
access across the field to Sudeley Castle

Delightful short break with the dog

We had a delightful stay at Anne Boleyns cottage. We are a family of four with a dog and we found the cottage very comfortable. The location was great as we were only a short walk from Winchcombe High Street and we looked over the sheep field with lambs. Everything we needed was provided in the cottage including torches for late evening dog walks! Sudeley Castle entrance was included with the stay and we found that really interesting.

Christmas break!

We had a very enjoyable stay at the cottages over Christmas, with our family and our dog. The accommodation was comfortable, providing everything we needed and the location was excellent. Thank you!

Digventure

We booked a two night stay whilst we were taking part in the archeology dig at Sudely castle and it couldn't have been more perfectly suited. Easy distance from the castle and town centre and fully equipped with everything we might have needed. The shower was just what was needed along with the large and fluffy towels after a day's digging and the cottage warm and cosy to hunker down as the darker nights came in over the weekend.

Had a great time

Exactly as expected, comfortable rooms and fully working appliances. Short distance from town, and very quiet area.

Perfect place to stay in the Cotswolds

My 87 year old mother, niece and I stayed in the Anne Boleyn cottage within the Sudeley Castle Cottages. It was absolutely perfect and a great base to see so many village around. It was perfect with the full kitchen facilities to be able to cook meals when we wanted to. The shops are only a 5 min walk away with pubs, cafes and food shops for supplies. We even joined the local community for a church service at St Peters and were warmly welcomed. The cottage had everything we needed and would highly recommend staying here.

The best kept secret in the Cotswolds

The Sudeley Cottages are just amazing, nestled on the edge of the Sudeley castle estate and a perfect base for your visit to the Cotswolds.
Not over touristy and a good selection of pubs and coffee shops. The local butcher sells the best meat if your self catering.
The cottages have been wonderfully renovated, beautifully furnished and very comfortable. They are fully stocked with everything you need, with good parking areas. A fantastic base for daily walks from the village.

Anne Boleyn Cottage, Sudeley Castle, Winchcombe

What a wonderful place to stay! The cottage was just what we needed in order to see Winchcombe and it's nearby villages. We're particularly impressed by Winchcombe as it was a place we held so dear in our hearts, having visited it not so long ago. Family have lived there and we wanted to return to see it all again.
We love how the cottage allows you to enter the Castle grounds and you can wander off into the fields nearby, such as walks along the Isbourne River. Lots of memories and lots of fun, we will return next year. Thank you to the housekeepers who keep these cottages in pristine condition.

High quality accommodation in excellent location

Our third visit with Bolthole Retreats. Despite, on this occasion, being woken each morning by nearby construction work, we enjoyed staying at the Anne Boleyn cottage which had everything we needed. We also found Winchcombe to be a great place to stay with a good selection of eateries and shops. Were already planning another return visit

Charming little cottage in a courtyard setting

This is a charming, clean, comfortable and well appointed little cottage set in the Sudeley Castle Country Cottages courtyard.
The location is quiet and it is very near to Winchcombe- pubs, restaurants and provisions just a walk to the high street. You dont feel like you are in a town though as the cottage is in a small valley on the edge of the Sudeley estate. To have free entrance to the castle was brilliant and we spent two memorable days there. It is a place the is very tranquil and the views are beautiful- one of the best places we have ever visited. It is also a good base for exploring a little further afield- Winchcombe and its meteorite and St. Peters Church, Hailes Abbey, Stanway Fountain, Snowshill Manor, Seizencote, Kiftsgate Court Gardens and Hidcote gardens. I can highly recommend Bolthole Retreats as a company.

Perfect!

Beautiful clean and modern cottage within a few minutes walk of the town.
Well equipped, comfy beds and great shower.
Set in a really pretty courtyard and close to many walks
Greeted with a bottle of bubbly for my husbands 50th which was a really lovely touch, thank you!
Will certainly recommend and hopefully be back again.

Anne Boleyn cottage

The cottage is in a picturesque location next to Sudeley castle with country walks nearby The cottage is well equipped and warm and comfortable. It was spotlessly clean and provided a welcome pack as well as toiletries. The location is ideal for exploring the Cotswolds and also convenient for a short walk up hill into Winchcombe with plenty of places to eat and shop
Patricia Miller
Lovely setting and cottage perfect

Cottage and amenities were excellent. very clean and lots of lovely extra touches with coffee pods and tea/coffee starter pack etc in the kitchen.
Felt the booking experience could have been a lot better as when we called to get info the person we spoke to really couldn't give us the pricing until we called back with which cottage we had decided on. Then she said approx price and when we then booked it was another price £60 more and then when we got the invoice we saw another £70 added for the cleaning! We were going to a wedding in the castle so we had little choice by then and were very satisfied with the actual cottage and setting. Just unhappy about the misleading pricing.

Excellent service, very enjoyable

Very comfortable. Well stocked kitchen of utensils etc, tea, coffee. Maybe some curtains need updating. Very enjoyable stay

Lovely stay in The Cotswolds

The cottage was in a perfect location. Despite being under 5 minutes from the town centre, (the Studeley Castle Cottages were back from the road in a small complex) it was very quiet. We were a 5 - 10 minute walk from the castle which was ideal.
Susan Ewing
Good but could be better

Potentially a really lovely cottage but let down by defects such as uncomfortable sagging seating in the lounge, some lack of maintenance (note of these left at property), and missing instructions for equipment. Location is excellent.
When we arrived some lights had been left on as a welcome gesture. This is a pleasant idea but such actions do not fit in with the current concern over climate change.
Gill Booth
Lovely stay

Lovely cottage. Winchcombe is a good base to explore Cotswolds, Oxford, Stratford upon Avon.
A couple of minor issues were sorted extremely quickly
Guest
Lovely accommodation, set in a great location

As a family of 4, plus 2 dogs, the accommodation was everything we could wish for.
Set in a lovely village, which is well worth exploring, the cottage was really well equipped with all modern facilities and premium appliances
Parking was just at the back, behind the small patio area.
The beds very very comfortable with all bedding and towels provided
The shower was great, plenty of storage in the bedrooms and full central heating for when it got chilly
My only niggle was the vacuum which was useless and no mop for the floors
Are already looking to visit again in October.
Simon Clarkson
Short break

Lovely cottage in a great location just right for a short break. Very well appointed and spotlessly clean on arrival.

Ideal for a cosy isolated Christmas!

Arrived late in the day and was welcomed by a beautifully decorated Christmas tree, a bottle of fizz and a box of chocs. Very unexpected. The tree especially made such a different to our short, but sweet Christmas. Very well equipped kitchen. Plenty of towels, Huge shower - no bath. Comfortable and cosy bedrooms. My husband had to work during our visit so the study area in the main bedroom was brilliant. Plenty of sockets in all the right places. Good wifi.
Plenty of parking and excellent location for walking and all the local shops (when allowed)!
Staff regularly around for any problems.
Guest
A very clean and tidy cottage, has everything you could possibly need for a lovely stay

Such a beautiful cottage in a lovely location, the only niggle would be the TV signal wasn't the best and we were limited to two channels but this didn't put us off the cottage, we'll definitely be re-booking.
Christopher Bevington
Lovely Cottage, perfect location

Anne Boleyn cottage is perfectly located in Winchcombe with plenty of pubs and restaurants within walking distance. Lovely touches like a dog bowl and towel. The cottage was immaculately clean and had everything you would need and more. Only thing I would change is a larger double bed in the master bedroom. Will definitely be back.
Kate Lewis
A perfect getaway

We really enjoyed our stay at Anne Boleyn. This was our fourth stay at one of the cottages over the past few years. The house was clean and comfortable and the kitchen was very well equipped. The shower was lovely too. Our only (minor) issue was that we couldnt get the smart functions of the TV to work and it was inferred in the cottage information book that this would be possible. We called the office a few times and left a message but didnt hear back. Otherwise it was a perfect stay.
Many thanks

Weekend break

Had a lovely break here celebrating husbands 60th. Ideal location for walks and a short walk into town itself. Would recommend

Beautiful comfortable cottage in excellent location

What a beautiful cottage! The kitchen is brand new and has everything you need. There is a lovely little enclosed courtyard with easy access from kitchen or lounge area. The lounge was comfortable and cosy. The bedrooms were spacious and warm and beds were comfortable. The cottage was spotlessly clean throughout. We loved this place! Perfect for a few days away. The location is excellent, countryside and town both a very short walk away. Wed like to stay again.

Anne Boleyn Cottage, Sudeley Castle Estate, Winchcombe

The cleanliness of the cottage was excellent. Everything you need for a great stay. Wi-fi never let us down. Shower worked like a power shower. Comfortable pillows and bed. Fresh white bed linen and towels. Set in a great location with lots of walks and within easy walking distance of the village, shops and pubs.
Stephen Croshaw
Lovely comfortable cottage in a perfect location for walking.

We had a lovely relaxing stay in Anne Boleyn cottage. A real Wow! Moment as we turned into the lovey courtyard. The cottage was really well cleaned which was reassuring in these strange times and very comfortable inside.
The location is excellent with many good walks straight from your doorstep and good pubs and restaurants in Winchcombe.

2020 holiday

Have stayed at Sudley Castle cottages previously. Would thoroughly recommend to anyone. Absolutely spotless and they are equipped with everything you'll need for a great holiday. Winchcombe is a quiet but great base to explore the surrounding area. Will be visiting again

Beautiful home away from home

Beautiful cottage, very comfortable and in a beautiful setting. Everything was very clean and modern within easy walking distance to the center of town. Would very much recommend this place to others.
Kevin Brown
Absolutely fantastic

We had the most warm welcome by a wonderful lady that could not have made us feel anymore at home. The cottage was spotless and very comfortable and was immaculately presented. I would highly recommend this location and group of cottages.

Country Cottage

Sweet cottage. When we visited the roses out front were in full bloom. Great location, walking to everything in town and price includes entry to Sudley Castle and gardens. Our one suggestion would be putting up a rack or shelf in the shower to place soap/shampoo on, otherwise very awkward in there.
Alisa Pascale
Bolthole Cottages.

Everything was fine, no real complaints, minor irritations really. A headboard on the bed would have been nice as the pillows kept 'tucking' down the back of the bed. There was no full length mirror, I was going to a wedding and appearances count. I found the reminders about leaving the place in good condition read in a rather regimented way and it appeared as if the housekeepers needs were in fact more important than our stay. I was however very satisfied.
Guest
Nice stay

Overall, this is a lovely cottage and we'd definitely book again. The documentation/information provided in the Welcome Pack does need a couple of corrections:
(1) Anne Boleyn cottage is not semi detached, it's terraced
(2) The dog friendly cottage pack says free entry into Sudeley Castle which really is very close by. However, the information failed to mention that despite booking a dog friendly cottage, you can't actually use the free entry and take your dog into the gardens of the castle. Dogs are not allowed.
The small garden area at the back of the cottage is a great space but needs a gate. There is a suitable gap but no gate. This would have made our stay a lot easier as the outside space would have been dog safe. Also, the dog/child gate isn't really fit for purpose, especially as dogs are not allowed upstairs.
The location is really good. In one direction is the castle and in the other, the shops/high street of Winchcombe. All the usual facilities within the cottage were exactly what we needed. It really was a comfortable, clean and pleasant place to stay. Easy access to Cheltenham and The Cotswolds.

Such a lovely short break

My friends and I booked this cottage ( and a neighbouring property) to attend Party at the Castle - a music event at Sudeley Castle. And we are so pleased that we did! A perfect location within walking distance of the Castle and Winchcombe village! Clean, cosy, plenty of room for us all, great shower and a kitchen equipped with all you could want (except a non stick frying pan!).
We had such fun.
Fiona Stewart
Lovely cottage, great location

The cottage was lovely, cozy and very clean. The location was excellent: close to the village shops and restaurants, Sudeley Castle, and walking paths. We did not have to use our car at all while we were there.
Anne Macquarie
Great stay

Lovely cottage in perfect location. Winchcombe has bags of character and plethora of place to have a meal out. Cottage highlight was comfy sitting room and especially the fantastic walk in shower. Quite a few steps inside with the rooms at different floor levels which was no problem for us but perhaps should be highlighted in description. Kitchen had plenty of equipment etc with straightforward appliances to cook with/on. We used twin room as the master bedroom double bed wa too small for us. pillows a bit uncomfortable but that is down to personal taste. All miner niggles and we will probably come and stay again.

Birthday getaway

I saw the the castle and garden's on the BBC country file programme, and thought it would be a perfect surprise for my wife ,who loves the whole history of the Tudor's and Plantagenet ,kings and queens.
We had a truly wonderful time visiting all the garden's exploring the castle and the local village of Winchcombe and enjoying the View's from Belas Knapp ancient burial mound, and enjoying the fantastic weather.

Review

Lovely clean and comfortable Cottage. However on arrival only 3 dining chairs for 4 people plus 1 1/2 loo rolls to last 4 days! Must say that on ringing the service department a gentleman came round quickly with a chair so we could then sit down and have dinner. He also supplied 2 loo rolls.
It would be nice if there was a mirror in the second bedroom.
Finally I would like to say that the shower was great and the cottage was lovely and warm. It was also in a fantastic position for Sudeley Castle.
Overall a great little Cottage.

Pretty, very comfortable cottage

I spent a wonderful week in this lovely, comfortable cottage, which is very well equipped and very clean. Quiet, peaceful location, ideal even for holidays without a car: good shops locally, good bus service, walks right from the front door.

Anne Boleyn

Lovely cottage has recently been refurbished as we have stayed there several times before in the past.
Ann Mills
Great location

The cottage is veru comfortable and well equipped. It is much more characterful than it appears in the photographs. The immediate location is excellent being close to many long distance footpaths and on the edge of the Sudeley estate. It is also very well placed for visiting lots of Cotswold attractions. A gate in the back garden would be useful for people with small children or dogs.
Susan Jones
A stay in beautiful surroundings

It was our second stay in Anne Boleyn Cottage. It was as lovely as the first one. The cottage was a nice place to stay. The good weather was a bonus. We visited the castle, which was different from the first trip. Really a surprise. The Cotswold is a beautiful area and we saw a lot of the villages and the scenery. We enjoyed ourselves very well.
Cornelis Bakker
a lovely cottage

A lovely cottage in a delightful place but you need a gate across the rear entrance to keep any dogs safe from straying.
Brian Everett
3 days at Anne Boleyn Cottage

We enjoyed our stay here. Very comfortable, clean and well situated cottage with ample car parking space at the back. Would have given it an "excellent" overall rating had it not been for the shower. The drainage on this was very poor and one had to switch it off mid-shower to stop water running over the shallow reservoir into the bathroom! This was a shame as it was a very spacious and modern shower area.
Guest
disapointing

Unfortunately we were disapointed with our stay at ann boleyn. We booked through a third party website and all the pictures were misleading as I believed I had booked one of the other cottages on site, not this one as I needed a bath for my toddler and a kind size bed...this cottage had neither! The cottage is in a good location and the sofas in the living room were very comfortable but the bed was hard and the shower had a big crack in the head so just poured water everywhere. Then at 5 am the smoke alarms started beeping as needed replacing, the safety sticker on them said they should of been replaced last year! Bit worrying. We moved to another cottage the next day which was much better.

Excellent location for wedding party

Location, accommodation great for wedding party
Peaceful.
Good set up but would have liked to see a welcome pack on arrival.
When driven for hours a few home comforts would have helped.

Anne Boleyn Cottage

We are regular visitors to Anne Boleyn cottage and hope to visit again next year. We enjoy our stay very much - the cottage ticks all our boxes. This year we were disappointed to note that the outside furniture had been moved to the front of the cottage whereas we used to enjoy the afternoon sunshine when it was at the rear. We have noted considerable increases in the rent year on year and the price may soon force us to look elsewhere. We do however like Winchcombe and as we are walkers it provides a great base for mus.

Sudeley again!

I have stayed in Sudeley cottages several times and more than once in Anne Boleyn and hope to do so again but I am sorry that there is no longer an onsite manager. I had to use the contact telephone number when I arrived as the key to the back door from the kitchen was missing. The response was very good but the back door key could not be found. I have always been impressed by the service provided by the onsite manager at Sudeley and similar cottages at Bruern.
