Overview
Almsbury Farmhouse is one of the largest properties on the Sudeley Estate, accommodating 14 guests comfortably across the main farmhouse and the separate self-contained annexe, which is complete with its own kitchen and living area. Surrounded by open, expansive garden and within just a short walk of both Sudeley Castle and the town of Winchcombe, Almsbury’s location is idyllic. Bursting with unique period features, hidden staircases, surprise rooms and all the utilities and equipment you will need, Almsbury is the ideal property for larger groups and families looking for a little more space.
Spread over three floors, on the ground floor guests have use of a cosy sitting room, impressively large dining room, kitchen, utility room, children’s playroom, downstairs WC and snug/breakfast room. There is access to the first floor via two separate staircases, where three sumptuous king size double bedrooms can be found, two with en-suite bathrooms as well as one family bathroom. Go up a smaller staircase to the second floor, and you will find three twin bedrooms, one is very large with plenty of beanbags – making for a great alternative playroom! There is also another family bathroom on the second floor. The annexe is self-contained, featuring a downstairs kitchen/living area and upstairs double bedroom and en-suite bathroom. Outside, guests have access to a large garden, as well as a raised decking area with outdoor dining furniture.
Lady Ashcombe has taken a special interest in the design and furnishing of the farmhouse and has personally selected works of art, objects and furniture that reflect the history and unique character of the building. Some of the contents come directly from the Castle’s collection, others from local antique shops and auction rooms.

Perfect farmhouse for family weekend

We were staying in Gloucestershire for a family wedding and needed a large house for three generations. Not knowing the area it was slightly pot luck that we chose Almsbury Farmhouse but we couldn't have been more delighted with what we found. The house really is very special and didn't feel like a rental property at all; it was truly a home from home, cosy but with plenty of space, bags of character and well equipped. The position is perfect, being set within easy walking distance of the town, it also benefits from a true country feel being surrounded by barns as well as having open country views. We couldn't recommend the property more highly.

A great place but looking tired

We had a great weekend at Almsbury Farmhouse and enjoyed complementary entry to Sudeley Castle....no mean thing given the entry fees.
Almsbury is a massive property with plenty of space, a fabulously equipped kitchen, and a great gardens
However it is expensive...
On specifics ...the WiFi is really slow

A lovely farmhouse in a good location

We booked the farmhouse for a family get together for 9 adults and 2 small children. It was clean, comfortable and had pretty much everything you needed in the kitchen. I would suggest the owners provide at least one large frying pan and perhaps an electric whisk as there were only hand whisks which can be a bit tiring! Fortunately Id taken my own. Apart from that a really well stocked kitchen.
The outside seating area was lovely and we took full advantage of it on two nights for a BBQ and pizza night- we were very lucky with the weather. The children loved running around and playing in the large garden.
The only negatives would be that the house needs some remedial work. The carpets are very stained in parts and much of the woodwork needs touching up. Theres also repair work needed to the doors of the annexe- the coach house doors, and also the main front door. It didnt detract from our stay but it would definitely make the experience that much better.
We ate out one night at the White Hart- very good and would recommend it.

A wonderful family weekend.

We loved the farmhouse. It had great character with stone floors, quirky corners and lots of unexpected steps which could be tricky for less mobile guests. The bedrooms and bathrooms were beautiful, very comfortable and spotlessly clean. The location was perfect
a 5 minute walk to Winchcombe and also to Sudely Castle. The kitchen was very well equipped for all the cooking we did.
We felt downstairs was a bit tired; a few very minor tweaks would have made it perfect. For instance the table mats were falling apart, the outdoor doormat was very worn, and the light in the living room didnt work at all. WiFi was dreadful and made watching TV very difficult but I guess thats just the area.
The wooden worktop was water damaged and it and the table felt tacky. The garden wasnt fenced which made it a bit tricky for our dog, who had to be on a long lead outside all the time but hes a good dog; others might not be so content? Other than these easily remediable minor points it was a really wonderful house and we had a great time.

Great stay for family group

We had a long weekend with a family group of 10; a lovely house, not so big that we felt we were rattling around, comfortable rather than fancy, plenty of parking. Separate annex very handy. Fabulous location at the entrance to Sudeley Castle - well worth a visit, more fun than NT properties. Big back garden for dogs to run around and rugby balls to be thrown. If you find a green frisbee it's mine.
WiFi is slow and TV hard to watch (Lions game Saturday) due to bandwidth.
Winchcombe is pleasant albeit busy. White Hart Inn dreadful service.
Top tip for family group:- Hire a narrowboat from Bidford Boats.

Fantastic to book for wedding guests, beautiful and full of character

Wow what a property. We were lucky to stay on a beautiful weekend for our wedding when the grass was green, roses were out and the house was looking great.
It took us 20 mins to get our bearing as the house is so higgeldy-piggeldy but that's what I love about it! Access to the 1st floor via two parts of the house was great so our guests weren't on top of each other. Most rooms had their own bathroom.
Clean, lovely light in the house, fantastic kitchen.

Beautiful property - perfect for large family gathering

We had a wonderful time at Almsbury Farmhouse. It was nicely appointed with everything we needed. There were plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms for our entire party to be comfortable. In addition, we loved the cozy sitting room and the enclosed backyard and patio area. It is a quick walk into Winchcombe or to Sudeley Castle. Winchcombe is a fantastic base for exploring the Cotswolds. We hope to be back soon!

A drive down to Woodchester Vineyard one day and a cycle up to Cotswold Lavender farm the next day. A drop in at the fascinating Sudeley Castle on the way. A Sudeley Sixtieth

We stayed at Almsbury Farmhouse with friends to celebrate my 60th birthday and we had a truly wonderful time. The weather was superb and so we were able to make full use of the generous outdoor space and barbeque. The space indoors is equally impressive and the whole place is extremely comfortable and impressively well equipped. The number of separate spaces make it especially suitable for parties of mixed age.
We loved being able to walk into Winchcombe so easily and having free access to Sudeley Castle. As we had tickets for Giffords Circus, the location could not have been better.
The only slight negative was that some peeling paintwork and dirty windows meant that the property was not quite as pristine as it appears in the photos. This would in no way put us off returning however.

Lovely farmhouse with loads of room for our extended family in a gorgeous setting. We loved visiting Sudeley Castle, gardens and playground just five minutes away and Winchcombe is a lovely village with good places to eat.

Family gathering March 2025

We stayed at Almsbury Farmhouse for 3 nights, for a family get together. There were 13 of us, aged from 18-65 and the accommodation worked very well, with a bathroom each for the three adult couples and a shared bathroom for the younger family members who had the bedrooms on the top floor. It is in a beautiful location with fields and countryside views, yet only a short walk from the village. We enjoyed spotting the deer, and hearing the owls at night and church bells in the morning.
The farmhouse had everything we needed, the kitchen was extremely well equipped with more than enough crockery and having 2 dishwashers was an extra bonus. We enjoyed the sociable family kitchen and the huge dining table meant that we could all eat together.
Winchcombe is a charming village, it has a good deli and a great selection of independent shops. We ate at the Lion Inn and had a fantastic roast dinner.
A bonus for us was Studely Castle which was an easy walk from the cottage, with the entrance fee being included in our accommodation cost, as it was located within the castle estate. The castle is set in beautiful grounds and is really interesting to walk around and read about it's history, with a lovely gift shop and cafe.
We also visited Broadway, Upper Slaughter and Stow-on-the-Wold, all of which are pretty Cotswolds villages, perfect for spending a morning/afternoon. We also spent an afternoon at Daylesford Organic which we would recommend too.
All in all we thoroughly enjoyed our short break at Almsbury Farmhouse and would have no hesitation in rebooking.

We had a wonderful weekend with all the family. Lovely big farmhouse.

Wonderful location

This property was a fabulous setting to celebrate an important birthday. A gorgeous rambling building. Possibly the one disadvantage was the lounge rooms were a little bit small to accommodate everyone comfortably but we managed. The dining room was great. Otherwise loads of space and well appointed. Everyone would definitely be happy revisit this property. The 3 dogs loved it too!
The manager of housekeeping team exceedingly helpful.
Rosemary Oldham
Condition of curtains in two bedrooms.

In the annexe bedroom the quality of the curtain was poor and it had quite a few broken hooks.
In the main house in one of the bedrooms it only had one tie back pole and this was coming away from the wall. They too needed to be re-hung.
In the large T.V. sitting room the carpet was stained by the radiator and had a hole in it.
That said, we had a really enjoyable stay in a most welcoming house which was beautifully warm, full of history and interesting pictures and furniture. It wasn't too 'precious' which is just what you need with children and a dog! It had a great atmosphere and one immediately felt 'at home' and relaxed. We all loved it and would definitely like to stay again - maybe when Storm Bert isn't whirling around.

Excellent location for large groups, but looking a little tired now

As a group of friends we have been staying here annually for almost ten year now. The location is excellent, within easy walking access to really nice pubs and restaurants in the lovely town of Winchcombe. It is one of the few houses in the area that can accommodate a group looking for six bedrooms.
However, we are becoming less enchanted as time goes by as the house is now looking a bit tired and really needs to be refreshed. There are signs of 'quick fixes' such as a cheap replacement toilet seat that doesn't fit properly, the light in lounge still doesn't seem to work properly, the central heating seems to be a bit 'patchy' (hot in some areas, not working in others) so that plug in electric heaters have had to be added. The place would benefit from redecoration throughout, and to ensure that all the bathrooms have usable, practical working showers (two of them have baths for with no easy way to use the shower attachment).
Colin Gardner
Great house and surrounds

In the end, we were a party of 16 so we also booked Archers but most of our activities and evening meals were in Almsbury Farmhouse.
It was lovely to stas in this perfect Cotswold Sone house,
The long dining table was perfect for our group meals while the snug worked well for breakfasts and informal lunches.
The provision of large dishes and plenty of workspace in the kitchen was appreciated.
The younger members of our party enjoyed sleeping in the attic.
One ceiling light was missing from the main bedroom.
The surroundings were beautiful - easy access to shops, and many good walks and the castle were enjoyed by all.

90th birthday celebrations

We had a lovely 2 night stay. It was my mums 90th birthday and we needed a place big enough to accommodate all 14 of the family. It also needed to be equidistant between Cornwall and Yorkshire. The attraction was Sudeley Castle which mum had never been to. The farmhouse was excellent. Very well appointed and comfortable and so much space. Could perhaps have done with a twin room on the first floor as I had to share a bed with mum - couldn't subject her to even more stairs to the attic. But apart from that a perfect stay.
Sudeley Castle was a bit "sniffy" when we turned up on the Saturday wanting free admission as per the info provided by Bolthole. But I held my ground and it was reluctantly given. Perhaps Bolthole might take this up with the Castle.

Large Characterful Accommodation for a Family Group in the Heart of The Cotswolds

The farmhouse suited our group well as we were looking for a comfortable base for a large group for easy access to the towns of the area and a space that could accommodate big dinners and enjoyable times together. Almsbury ticked these boxes and we enjoyed out stay with ample space for everyone. The house and kitchen has all you need for catering to a large group and the garden is a fantastic space to sit out, to share meals and to enjoy the church bells on a Sunday and Wednesday . Walking distance to Winchcombe was perfect and the pubs, supermarkets provided all we needed, not to mention our last night out at Restaurant 5 North Street which was a real treat. The ticket entry to the castle is a real bonus as well, a fabulous castle steeped in so much history.
We did feel for the price the property could benefit from a bit of love and a good clean up of cobwebs, windowsills and dead insects! The bedding, towels etc were spotless however.

Excellent place for family holiday

We stayed at Almsbury farmhouse with 4 generations celebrating an 80th and a 1st birthday for 3 nights.
The house is characterful, in a lovely location and very well equipped.
A short walk to Winchcombe with an excellent butcher and free access to Sudely Castle, also a short walk away were ideal. Lots to do within the slightly wider area too.
We easily cooked for the whole party in the well equipped kitchen. Plenty of kitchen equipment, 2 dishwashers and a range cooker. Only thing we wished we had bought with us were sharper knives.
We really liked the outside space too. Loads of parking and huge garden. The children particularly liked the 'secret garden' through the archway outside the kitchen. BBQ also in this garden.
The house was ideal for our stay and we would definitely recommend it and stay again ourselves.

Spacious family home

We were delighted with the size and layout of the farm house. There was plenty of space for the family to share time together.
The house was clean, tidy and well equipped.

Our stay at Almsbury Farmhouse

The house is in a beautiful area and is ideally positioned close to Winchcombe. The house is rambling and spacious and was ideal for our party of ages 7 to 70 plus.
We did feel that the house could do with a freshen up re the decor. It could have done with a more deep clean prior to our arrival.
The toaster needs replacing as only half of it worked.
Wi-Fi was very slow. A better bbq, ie gas would be good. The garden was lovely but we had to clean the table, seat cushions were dirty and could do with replacing and there was no parasol and two of our party got sunburned.

Fabulous family stay

We had a lovely stay at Almsbury Farmhouse last weekend. As our family grows it becomes more difficult to find places big enough for us: fortunately our new baby didn't count so we were able to fit all 15 in easily. There was lots of comfy seating and dining space and a well equipped kitchen with very useful wine fridge. The children loved the rambling building, great for hide and seek! The annexe for Granny and Grandad was perfect! There's lots to do on the doorstep, some of us walked to Belas Knap Long Barrow, others went further afield to Stroud where the circus was visiting. The White Hart pub did an excellent lunch for us all. Free entry to Sudeley castle was much appreciated; we didn't have time to do it all so we'd like to come back next year.
Just two suggestions - a couple of bigger cooking pans for large group cooking please and the lovely back garden would be more relaxing if it were securely fenced - the current fencing is attractive but no obstacle to a dog who loves chasing Muntjac deer or pheasants - both seen in the field next door.
Elizabeth Parker
Lovely place for a family gathering

Huge building with lots of character.
Large communal spaces and also smaller ones.
We had no children with us but there was a games room I'm sure would come in handy if you did bring children.
Very close to the castle and lovely walks.

Almsbury Farmhouse

Fantastic house for large family gathering , plenty of space to spread out. House had some interesting features and hidden discoveries. Log fires and well stocked kitchen with use of two dishwashers helped.
Location meant short walk to pubs and village with lots more of the Cotswolds to discover a short drive away
Seeing a deer in the garden an interesting an expected bonus
Only down side being two of the bedrooms had no heating. Radiators not working. However this reported and maintenance completed a site visit

A memorable 80th birthday weekend

The house was delightful, plenty of room for a family of 10, grandparents, parents and grandchildren. Loved the quirkiness of the building, comfortable beds and the location.

Great location in a house with real character for large groups

This house is is suitable for large groups in easy walking distance of the pretty Cotswold town Winchcome which has plenty of nice restaurants. A house full of character that we have used many times.

A lovely old farmhouse with an extra annexe. Perfect for a family spanning three generations. Plenty of space. Well equipped kitchen with lovely spacious dining room to seat 14 people. Bolthole website gave information on local private chef(the Season Kitchen) who provided us with a wonderful celebration dinner. A relaxed happy weekend was enjoyed by all.

A beautiful home in an excellent location

We hired the house for a family get together for my mothers 80th birthday. We had a fantastic time in the house, the kitchen is well kitted out and spacious. The dining room is superb and spacious enough for all the family. The gardens are beautiful. The only thing that we needed but couldnt find were wine buckets! We looked everywhere!!! Other than that it was a wonderful weekend and a lovely house which we would recommend.

A great place for a large family gathering

We had a wonderful weekend at Almsbury Farmhouse. The dining table can seat fourteen and the spacious kitchen was very well equipped. The house is full of character and our grandchildren loved exploring it and hiding in the large cupboards! On arrival, we wanted to turn the heating up but couldn't find the control panel with its screen. We rang the Sudely Estate office and a man explained it was on the first floor at the top of the stairs and he patiently waited while we got it set. Happily the house warmed up very quickly. The annexe is also lovely and well equipped for two people. We found the whole place superb.

Lovely stay in a pretty farmhouse

We had a lovely stay at the pretty Almsbury Farmhouse, it was an old farmhouse so the slanty floors, steps and low doorways were to be expected. The beds were very comfortable, kitchen well equipped and located in a quiet location. The opportunity to visit Sudeley Castle for free was fantastic and we had a brilliant day out there. The only negative comment would be that there was no blind on the window in the bedroom in the eaves and I feel that for a party of 12 that more shower enclosures would be useful. Two 'overhead showers' are actually hand held shower attachments which can only be used sitting in the bath. There were 12 of us and there was a lot of space for us all to spread out but to also be together. Lots of parking available and a good location to use as a base whilst visiting the Cotswolds.

College reunion

Our second time in this lovely farmhouse. It still lived up to our expectations. Our only comment would be to consider prewarmimg the house before our arrival. It was a bit chilly, we lit a woodburner but ran out of wood.

A lovely property in a great location

Almsbury Farmhouse was the perfect location for a 3 generation family get together. It is in a great location being in Winchcombe with it's ample amenities, and the free access to Sudeley Castle is an added bonus. Grounds and castle are definitely worth a visit, during your stay. Lots of walks right on the doorstep suitable for all levels of walker.
The house is well-equipped and comfortable and the garden and outdoor space are good for active dogs and children!

90th Birthday celebrations

Last weekend, 14 members of our family, came together at Almsbury Farmhouse to from various parts of the world, to celebrate a 90th birthday. With ages ranging from 1 year to 90 years, we found that the house catered well for all ages. The house provided plenty of space to spend time all together and also relax in our own family groups.
The location was attractive and conveniently situated. The reception and dining rooms were homely and comfortable and the kitchen and bathrooms well equipped.
We all really enjoyed our weekend away and would certainly recommend it to others.

Everything as advertised. Great location. House presented clean and tidy with all that was needed for our short stay.

Great location

Beautiful house in a beautiful location. However the place could do with a little TLC.
Considering the cost of the property a small amount of logs were provided with no information as to where we could get any more so we had to result in using the electric heaters that were provided which was a real shame. This was the only negative we found about the place.
Very well equipped kitchen.
Huge amount of space and quirky rooms where you could be involved with the rest of the group or lose yourself in one of the quieter rooms

Our second time staying here did not disappoint.

It is a lovely house in a brilliant location . It was our second stay .By way of feedback it would be good to have more than 2 tea towels. The radiators need bleeding ,several didnt work at all,and a couple of the bedrooms were pretty chilly.A few more light bulbs in the dining room would be good .thanks nichola

Ideal location for a group and for walking

Ideal location in Winchcombe with easy access to the surrounding countryside and a multitude of walks.
The property was ideal for large group with somewhere to eat together and relax. Perfect for meeting up with friends or family.
Warm and well equipped with everything you need.

Family get together

This is our second visit to the farmhouse and we enjoyed it as much as the first time. The house is fabulous for family get togethers, well equipped, clean and spacious. The gardens are beautiful and the property is in a great location. Bolthole Retreats are a pleasure to deal.

A wonderful house with lots of space for large family gatherings.

Fantastic house with plenty of room for our family gathering. Everyone was happy with their bedrooms and the Annex was warm and cosy. Lots of walks from the doorstep and being able to visit Sudeley Castle and grounds for free as many times as you wanted was a real bonus.
Linda Turner
Great for large groups

Perfect house for large family groups. Great space and fun property - so many different areas to sit and very good size rooms. Stunning garden and amazing large dinning room table. Would definitely recommend and would definitely return. This worked perfectly for a bridal party with the bride and groom staying in the annex.

A family get together

We used this property for a 5 night family reunion for 10 adults and a child. We selected the property due to its proximity to a variety of interesting places to visit/activities and this suited all age groups within the party. The outside space was great and we took full advantage of it when the weather was good. 1 possible addition would be some outdoor comfortable furniture and outdoor games. One slight issue was the patio area had loose pavers which tilted when you walked over them and this was dangerous; the side gate post was also rotten and this could fall on someone. The house was extremely well appointed with the bonus of 2 dishwashers. We could not find any instructions for the washing machine and when it had finished, we struggled to open it! Complimentary welcome packages, toiletries and access to the castle were great- the castle is well worth a visit. Some good pubs in the village and a good fish and chip shop. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Fabulous Cotswold Farmhouse

We have just returned from our daughters wedding where we booked the farmhouse for a variety of family members to use.
It was an outstanding place to stay, everything and more was provided at a very high standard, with lots of additional touches. Large comfy beds, soft towels and great location. The garden was perfect, secluded, picturesque with a great BBQ and plenty of room for garden games. We felt like we were in a French Chateau. It made the whole wedding experience a real treat.
Cannot recommended highly enough. Fabulous customer service, thank you so much we feel privileged to have stayed at Almsbury Farmhouse.

Overall Very Good - we enjoyed our stay

The property is well located being yards from the town centre in one direction and Sudeley Castle in the other. Overall the property was in good condition, but there were some minor areas that needed a bit of TLC. Beds were comfortable, and most equipment worked (Vent Axia in Bedroom 6 ensuite did not). Kitchen was very well equipped with the exception of needing a good size wooden chopping/ carving board. Rooms were clean, but some of the carpets looked stained and could have used a shampoo etc. The hot water was boiling hot (we had children staying) and, despite sending someone around to adjust the temperature, it remained so. There was no umbrella/parasol for the outside table, but a quick call to the estate resulted in the matter being promptly dealt with, and two were delivered and set-up for us shortly afterwards. Wi-fi is patchy around the house, being non existent in the main lounge. Being such a rural area there's probably nothing that can be done about the speed of the Wi-Fi, but I think that you can buy some devices that extend the spread of the signal which would improve matters. Overall, despite the few aforementioned niggles, this is a nice property, and we would be happy to return to it.

Perfect location for our big group

I brought a group of plein air painters from the US to Winchcombe to paint at Sudeley Castle and in the area. We rented both 14 Vineyard street and Almsbury Farmhouse. The Farmhouse was the perfect base of operations for our group of 16. The sizable and well appointed kitchen and dining spaces were perfect for our group. We could easily flow around the kitchen, serve ourselves and find a seat without being on top of each other. Two dishwashers made short work of cleanup too. The kitchen also has plenty of dishes, cups, mugs and cutlery. Beautiful painting locations were just steps outside our door.
The bedrooms were comfortable. We stayed during a particularly hot summer. The upstairs room got very hot during the day, but open windows and fans (the farmhouse has some) cooled things down after sunset.
Our group took full advantage of the free entry to Sudeley Castle. Painting the landscape for three days. April and castle staff and Steven (head gardener) were delightful, informative and friendly.

This property provided everything our family of eleven needed to have a comfortable experience.

The Almsbury Famhouse provided more of everything we required to have a great experience for our family vacation. The property is located so that we were able to visit all the towns that we had on our schedule without long drives. The facility has everything one needs for comfort; our family of eleven was delighted with all the accoutrements in place. I highly recommend the Almsbury Farmhouse and give highest marks for this facility! We all agree to return in the future which is a first for our group!

Wonderful stay in the farmhouse

Hi, we had a wonderful stay at the farmhouse and really it really made our family vacation in the cotswalds extremely special. We would certainly stay there again and recommend this property to friends in the future, especially if you have a large group to accommodate.
The only thing I could say slightly negative, was the outside umbrella for the table was busted and it made it a little more challenging to get shade, with the beautiful weather we had in the garden. Other than that we thought the property was beautiful and fantastically positioned in the village.
Thank you.
Nicholas Mawer
Superb place

Its a really wonderful spot, in the shadows of the castle, a couple of minutes from the village and in beautiful countryside. Its perfect for a family or friends reunion - lovely communal spaces (the big garden with a lovely outdoor dining area) and spacious bedrooms and annexe. Would highly recommend

Wonderful location and charming house and garden

Our family loved this holiday at Almsbury Farmhouse!! The house was perfect for a large group and the accessibility to Sudeley Castle was an absolute pleasure!
Could not have enjoyed it more!
House is well equipped and comfortable.

Almsbury Farmhouse Winchcombe for a memorable Cotswold holiday

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Almsbury Farmhouse in Winchcombe to celebrate a milestone birthday
The property was just as described, warm and well fitted out. It was great for our large family group, with comfortable and spacious social spaces, and ample parking. The house is full of character, so be prepared for some low doorways, narrow stairways and uneven floors, especially if you have elderly guests in your party.
The gardens expansive and attractive with an open area having river access and a separate, large, enclosed area safe for children and dogs.
Winchcombe is a great Cotswold base as it is not over-crowded as are some of other Cotswold villages. The town is on the doorstep for a coffee shop, pub, or a browse round the shops. Plenty of choice for a good pub meal. Almsbury Farmhouse is a place where you can park up for the whole stay as there was so much to do in the immediate area, with many short and long walks from the doorstep. But theres also option of easy driving access to many other Cotswolds towns.
The free pass for all the guests to Sudeley Castle is great bonus especially if for young children who want to use the adventure playground.
Bolthole Retreats booking process was straightforward, with all the information needed provided promptly and clearly.
I would definitely recommend Almsbury Farmhouse and Bolthole Retreats for Cotswold holidays.

Lovely Farmhouse

What an amazing place. A beautiful old farmhouse with modern facilities. Great for a big family get together. Lovely walks from the door and the town of Winchcombe a few minutes walk away with shops, pubs and the amazing Restaurant 5.

Lovely house in a great location

Overall it was a lovely property but some of the beds are very poor and needs a new mattress (springs protruding through the mattress).
Simon Morris
Friends reunion

Farmhouse lovely location and beautifully clean. Kitchen extremely well equipped. The Farmhouse and Annexe would suit large families with children and would be comfortable for eight adults. Our party of comprised of 5 couples and 2 single adults and, although we were aware of the 2nd floor layout of two twin rooms with a further twin bedroom accessed through one of those rooms, the access was narrow and low. Also these three rooms shared one bathroom. We enjoyed our 2 night stay but some of the party were a lot more comfortable than others.

Fantastic house with everything you could need!

What a beautiful house! So well equipped with everything a family could need! Fantastic location too. Would highly recommend.

A family gathering in the Cotswolds

A lovely old farmhouse close to Winchcombe and facilities and also close to Sudeley Castle with adventure playground for the children and plenty to see within the castle and grounds. The farmhouse makes an excellent venue for large family groups of all ages, and our recent weekend celebration was a great success. Our family would love to visit again!

SHALL DEFINITELY RECOMMEND IT TO FRIENDS!

10 of us had a lovely, relaxed break at Almsbury Farmhouse and were sad to leave. It was very well equipped and provided everything we needed. It is in a prime position on the outskirts of Winchcombe ( 5 mins walk) with local shops and transport.Good sized bedrooms, 2 kitchens in the main house + one in the annexe, stocked with glasses, good quality kettles and toasters, dishwashers, fridges and a freezer. Ideal "hidden" bedrooms upstairs for children and a small playroom downstairs, plus small and large dining rooms and lounges on the ground floor. A welcome tray provided tea, coffee biscuits and delightful mini bottles of milk.
Plentiful hot water and parking.... the only things missing were salad servers and condiments!! We really hope to return to this friendly "home from home". 10/10

Return Visit to Almsbury Farmhouse

What an amazing location for a family get together - our first in a long time and a return to the beautiful Almsbury Farmhouse.
Such a well equipped and well presented house with everything we could possible need. The sunny weather meant that we were able to enjoy the outdoor space and the sheltered garden area was perfect for an evening barbeque.
Lorraine Markham
Amazing location, lots of space, in need of some TLC

Almsbury Farmhouse is in a great spot, just 5 minutes walk from Sudeley Castle and Winchcome village centre. Free access to the castle was great too, we took the kids almost every day. The house is very spacious and has a great garden for playing around in. It's also very quiet and peaceful with lots of places to explore just on the doorstep. The house has several smart TV's and a good internet connection.
Generally the house was in desperate need of some attention. It's clearly a very old house so you can accept it not being perfect but things were falling off all over the house. It appeared not to have been touched in a while. Many of the titles on the garden patio were loose (and lifted up) which presented a danger to our small children. The fridges were missing several key pieces meaning things regularly fell out, which again was dangerous (one guest broke her toe on a falling wine bottle).
The furniture was old, and in places it suited the house, but in others it just needed an update. The mattresses in each bedroom appeared to be very old and they were certainly not comfortable. Every guest complained of a bad back in the morning. I would imagine in the winter the house would be very cold as its only singularly. glazed.
In summary, the location of the house is excellent and the house itself was nice, it just needs some maintenance. We would not return unless the house was freshened up.
Rob Burton
Almesbury Farmhouse

Another great stay at Almesbury Farmhouse. Good house for a large family holiday or break with friends. Lots of room and the garden is lovely and very safe for children. The house does need a bit more TLC, quite a few things broken on our arrival this time including the lock on the bathroom and a cupboard door in the bathroom.
Abby Maund
Lovely House

A lovely house located ideally to be able to access some lovely walks. Winch come is a great place, very relaxed and not full of bus loads of tourists. The house is in good condition but there are some jobs that need to be done before I would say it was in perfect order but this is only decoration that is required in some areas.

4 day stay in Cotswolds

Lovely 4 days spent at Almsbury Farmhouse, perfectly located just a short walk to Winchcombe where theres takeaways, pubs, shops etc
Great place for a family get togethers as there are lots of rooms and also separate lounges and dining rooms. Lovely old rambling farmhouse.

A nurturing retreat

The team who manage the estate were incredible, they were so helpful and available to help. My mother has limited mobility and the farm house was comforted, nurturing and provided all what we needed for a healing retreat. I cant wait to come again.

Family Birthday

Ideal for a getaway with the kids. The house was lovely, perfect setting, clean and safe. Massive bonus of having the castle at the end of the road. Really appreciated the welcome pack in the Kitchen. Will definately use again

Wonderful Farmhouse

A wonderful farmhouse with an incredible setting - absolutely perfect for a family birthday celebration. Great outdoor space in particular. Would definitely recommend.

Beautiful house in a great location

Really enjoyed our stay, beautiful house in a town centre location. Perfect for large groups that want to explore the Cotswolds

Almsbury farmhouse stay

The house location is amazing close to the village and to the castle. The house is very spacious and the kitchen is well equipped. The garden is also great for children. The customer service is very very good (We had an issue on the first day and they attended within an hour of contacting them). The only negative is that we felt the house plumbing needs some renovation.

Wonderful 8Oth Birthday Weekend

Just perfect for a family get together in the Cotswolds to celebrate a milestone birthday.
The farmhouse was an exceptionally high standard and really well equipped.

Lovely Large House stay in the Cotswolds

Our extended family booked a number of Sudeley Castle Cotswolds cottages including the Almsbury Farmhouse through Bolthole and had an amazing time. It was fantastic having so many bedrooms with bathrooms so each family didnt have to share. It wasnt inexpensive but we were there for Christmas week. They had Christmas trees up and left us mince pies and Prosecco as well as starter tea and coffee which was much appreciated. We would love to come back,

A wonderful weekend with friends

With my 50th birthday fast approaching I decided to book Almsbury Farmhouse for 12 of us to spend a weekend together. Amazing place. The cottage is lovely. Plenty of space to hang out together or do separate things if it suits. A play room for youngsters if required. Well fitted kitchen. Wood burners in the main rooms with wood supplied. Close to both Winchcombe Village and Sudeley Castle (free entry when staying in the cottage!) and lots of walks in the area. Cant fault it!
Chris Silk
Good choice for large groups

This is our third stay at Almsbury, and we like it very much.
Two small points to pick up - the central heating in some of the bedrooms wasn't working properly. Also the code for internet access in the guide book is wrong - and it has been for more than a year now. The correct one is on the back of the router.
Colin Gardner
Absolutely fantastic

I booked the farmhouse along with High Admiral to celebrate my 60th birthday with family and friends and we were not disappointed. Just perfect, so much so that we want to come back.
Linda Schofield
Wonderful time

We were 12 on this stay and what a fab time we had. The 4 kids 9, 9, 11 and 14 enjoyed exploring and hide and seek, as well as the large screen TV for movies etc. The accommodation was wonky, old, characterful and vast and we loved it.
We enjoyed the 3 different reception rooms and the well stocked spacious kitchen. We also enjoyed the wood burners. There was plenty of room for everyone and the kids loved the loft room too for games and privacy from us guitar and ukelele strumming grown ups.
It was a real bonus to get into the castle for free, which was really interesting with lovely gardens.
The only 2 criticisms we had were that the bedrooms were fairly cold as a couple of the radiators didn't seem to work/come on?
The other thing was the annexe didn't have a fridge. Whilst it was okay, as a couple from our group stayed there could come to the main house, a fridge would have been handy for milk for tea etc.
Other than those 2 things, everything was great and we will definitely love to come again.
Thank you for restoring this historic farmhouse 10/10

Birthday meet up

Very attractive Grade 2 listed farmhouse with ample parking next to a disused unconverted barn. Well equipped in the main house although several radiators did not work and some lightbulbs need replacing. The annex is not so well maintained and there were dead flies on the floor and in the room when we arrived. It rained quite heavily whilst we were there and water entered the bedroom of the annex through the window as the overlying gutter needs repair. These are all things that could be easily put right to make a handsome building more attractive. Despite this we enjoyed our stay in Winchcombe and at the Farmhouse and would recommend.
Robert Brindle
Definately reccomend

Wonderful place. 13 of us. All had excellent bedrooms mostly ensuite with plenty of reception space and lots of parking. Gardens were great with river at one side and 'safe for youngsters' area (about half acre) sealed off with separate access. Free pass to castle very handy, spent all of one day there. Winchcombe nice little town but eating out expensive.
Definitely recommend.

Family celebration

We booked Almsbury Farmhouse for a birthday celebration with friends and family and werent disappointed. The house is great for parties and large groups, there is plenty of space and it is very comfortable. The enclosed walled garden is ideal for children and we used it a lot for games and BBQs. The location was very convenient with shops, pubs and restaurants and the castle all in easy walking distance. We had a couple of issues with the house while we were there but these were resolved really quickly by the staff at Sudeley Castle who came over immediately. We would definitely return.

Wedding accommodation

Almsbury Farmhouse was a gorgeous place to stay for our wedding weekend. It gave us a great base of operations close to our venue and really felt like we were somewhere special.
The only downside is that because it was such a busy weekend we hardly spent any time in the house!! We will
definitely be back for a more relaxing break in the future 🙂
Suzanne Butler
Wonderful family holiday.

We loved the property and with 5 children and six adults, there was plenty of space, and garden for the children to play. The kitchen very well equipped for eating in, especially in the evenings after a day of driving around all the beautiful Cotswold villages.
We loved Winchcombe as a village to be based in, not touristy like many other villages. The house an easy walk into town for a morning coffee or pub meal. We did not use the annex bedroom, which was really the most modern as there was no bedding downstairs for children, to be close to their parents. Shame there was no hot water on our last morning. Great laundry set up. Great bonus to have Sudeley Castle next door with free entry, we visited several times and the children loved the play equipment, gardens beautiful, and great gift shop to be tempted with. Thank you.
Franco Teghini
Family Holiday

We were disappointed on arrival to find there was a bad smell in the annex, and upon investigation there was an unemptied bathroom bin with a used personal product inside.
The lack of a small fridge in the annex meant there was no point in providing a tea tray or a toaster as the fridges were inside the main farmhouse. There is a space for a fridge so it seemed obvious to put one there.
Complimentary biscuits and sweets, as mentioned on the little sign near the tea tray in the main kitchen were not there.
Carbon monoxide alarm battery started to run out, there was constant beeping and we had to disconnect it to preserve our sanity.
The property itself was very nice but if you want a comfortable soft to medium mattress then go somewhere else.
A single bed in one of the double rooms would have been handy. The farmhouse has creaks and noises typical of a building of this age but children may find it a little disturbing. We had that problem and carried one of the single beds from the top floor down to a double bedroom for our stay.
I wasn't going to review this stay as I didn't want to put negative things. I emailed Bolthole about the issues and have not had one word back from them, hence this review.

Family celebration

The Farmhouse was an excellent venue for a large family celebration - plenty of space and a lovely back garden for the BBQ. A visit to Sudeley Castle is highly recommended

Family get together in besutiful farmhouse

Visiting from Australia, i arranged for my sisters and my husbands brother to stay with us at the farmhouse. It was very comfortable and spacious. Access to the Cotswolds Way immediately across the road and the visit to Sudely Castle was great. I would certainly consider staying there again.
Deirdre (dee) Hudson
My stay at Almsbury Farmhouse

Beautiful house, beautifully kept (the two cleaners I met were absolutely fantastic.......what wonderful girls!) Couldn't fault it except that a mirror in the second floor bedrooms would have been helpful. My friends and I all loved it.
Gill Hassell
A great family week

I stayed here with my family for a week and had a great time. There were 12 of us in total and the amount and type of rooms worked really well alongside the annex.
The location is excellent, we almost always ended up in a lovely pub when we popped out for a walk. The Lion Inn was especially nice.
Fish and Chip shop is good, as is the Chinese takeaway. We found the shops to be more than sufficient for when we cooked.
Free entry to the castle is a great bonus, we ended up in there 3 times over the week exploring different aspects of the grounds / castle / ruins and letting the kids run around in the playground.
Martin Grant
A family holiday.

Eight adults and six children under nine enjoyed their stay at Almsbury Farmhouse. The accommodation was ideal and as child friendly as advertised. Any contact we had with the booking agents was dealt with quickly and efficiently.

Family weekend

Great location as easy walk to shops but felt like in the countryside. Enjoyed complimentary visit to Sudeley Castle. Lots of space for a family get together which worked well from large dining room, sitting room with huge TV for the rugby and snug adjacent to the kitchen for puzzles and games.

Large Comfortable Cottage

Almsbury Farmhouse is situated just off Winchcombe High Street set aside in a quiet location with ample car parking. The cottage itself can easily cope with large group parties having several rooms to relax on the comfortable furniture. The kitchen, bedrooms and bathrooms are well equipped with quality beds and bedding. A short walk to local shops and pubs and restaurants. Perfect for a week away.

A beautiful farmhouse, and a fantastic stay ! We loved Almsbury!

We've just got back from a fab family gathering at Almsbury Farmhouse. It's really rare that you find a holiday home to rent with such gorgeous interiors and attention to detail.
We had such a lovely time in your farmhouse, and particularly enjoyed socialising around the large kitchen island, and lounging in the living room with plenty of board games.
The surrounding village is absolutely gorgeous, and the farmhouse is located so conveniently. Lovely walks just outside your doorstep, you barely need to leave the village!
Our only small inconvenience was the incorrect keysafe information - a call to the Sudeley Staff quickly sorted this, however - one key between 14 guests gets a little difficult.
All in all, we loved our stay, and will definitely be back again soon.
Jessica Withey
A great property for a family or group get together

The farmhouse is an old, quirky and characterful but with all the modern essentials required for a very comfortable stay. Not for those who are looking for contemporary accommodation however it is totally in keeping with the delightfully historic village of Winchcombe and this only served to enhance our stay. We will definitely return at a warmer time of year so that we can continue to explore the area also enjoy the garden and bbq on an evening.

A lovely stay

A family get together of 14 of us. Almsbury Farmhouse is beautiful, with loads of comfortable areas to relax. The area is lovely and being right by the castle was a bonus. Would highly recommend staying here with plenty of everything you need. Shame about the awful wet weather we had so couldnt explore as much as we would have liked but still managed a lot of fun. Just a couple of minor things that would have made it perfect. A fridge in the annex would have been good especially as there is space for one and more detailed information on property and where to find things. The electric cut out upstairs and we had no idea where the fuse box was ( up kitchen stairs first bedroom on the right in the left hand cupboard if happens again). We phoned and got a reply straightaway and an offer to come and sort so excellent service thank you.
Overall would highly recommend and look forward to visiting again.

Weekend stay

Stayed here for our daughters wedding at Sudeley Castle. Would be a great stay for Christmas, wonderful atmosphere only a short walk to local pubs and countryside.
Carol Farnell
Good choice for large groups

Good location within easy walking distance of town, with loads of bedrooms making it ideal for large groups.
Colin D Gardner
A comfortable stay in beautiful and peaceful surroundings.

Almsbury Farmhouse was perfect for our group of 3 generations of family. We found everything to be very clean and comfortable during our stay and would definitely recommend the house to other similar sized groups. A highlight of the stay was our visit to Sudeley Castle which was a fantastic attraction for all the family! We also enjoyed exploring the village of Winchcombe and all it's shops, and had a delicious meal at 'The Lion Inn'.
Our only suggestion for improving the service (which was excellent in all other respects) would be to highlight to guests before arrival that in order to use the wood burning stoves they should bring their own kindling/newspaper or fire lighters and matches. We did not think ahead in this respect and were unable to use the stove on our first night. This was quickly recitified the following day when we bought supplies from the local hardware store (we left some behind for the next guests which was hopefully ok?).
Thank you to Bolthole Retreats and Lady Ashcombe for a wonderful holiday. We hope to return to the Cotswolds for future family gatherings.

Short Farmhouse Break

Fantastic venue for a family get-together, with great spaces for relaxing and socialising in a location ideal for local walking, shopping, and eating & drinking.
Iain Cameron
Great for a family gathering!

A perfectly located property and just right for a large family gathering. The kids especially loved it with plenty of loft and garden space to play in. Really enjoyed mealtimes in the large, sociable dining room. Good parking and complimentary entry to Sudeley castle was a bonus!
Jane Kent
Well-equipped & comfortable, ideal for family get-togethers

The Almsbury Farmhouse is a perfect base for a family get-together in the heart of the Cotswolds. It is very well equipped (crockery, glassware, kitchen appliances, even clothes washer detergent), and has a great layout for large get togethers. Small suggestions - a better Wi-Fi router that can reach more of the large house, disposable plates for eating outside, and an espresso maker would be lovely. We hope to return someday!

Perfect place for a family gathering

I booked Almsbury Farmhouse for a family gathering for my 40th birthday. The house was perfect for our group - a party of 12 adults, 2 toddlers and a baby - having a property with a number of reception areas and a separate annexe meant that everyone had their own space. We were incredibly lucky with the weather, which was amazing, and meant that we spent the majority of our time in the lovely enclosed garden, which was great for small children. The farmhouse was beautifully furnished, very clean and had everything that we needed (with the possible exception of sharp knives for food preparation). The team at Bolthole Retreats were helpful and efficient and very kindly accommodated my request to access the property slightly early. The location was brilliant - a very short walk to lovely Winchcombe, which has a number of pubs (we ate at The Lion, which we would recommend - we had our own private function room as we were a large group) and shops, including a Co-op in case you run out of anything. We took advantage of the free entry to Sudeley Castle, which was a fantastic bonus - the grounds are beautiful and the kids loved the huge adventure playground. Our only criticism was that there were a few small things in need of attention, such as a dripping tap in the kitchen, and a couple of loose toilet seats, but it would only need a handyman to go in for a couple of hours to sort these out. All in all every member of my family declared it was one of the best places that they had ever stayed. Thank you for an amazing weekend - we would definitely book Almsbury Farmhouse again in the future!

Lovely family weekend

Excellent village location. House is large and comfortable and well equipped. Contact with owner's representatives helpful and courteous. Lucky enough to have good weather too.

Prefect for a large group

I booked the house for my 40th birthday for 4 families. The layout of bedrooms is great and we all had our own space. The attic rooms are perfect for kids. All bedrooms are decorated beautifully with modern bathrooms.
Kitchen is well equipped with lots of plates, glasses, serving dishes etc. Would have been nice to have essentials like foil, cling film, cooking oil, kitchen roll provided - or at least info that this isn't provided as most holiday lets are very well stocked so I've come to assume it will be there.
Great seating for meals both inside and out which meant there was plenty of room for whole group to sit down together. The sun terrace is particularly lovely. Set within a safe garden area which contains dogs and children! We loved the alpacas!
The location of the house is perfect- short stroll into Winchcombe, almost next door to Sudeley and on the routes for several great walks. The free entry to the castle is a real bonus as it's not cheap otherwise.
All in all a lovely stay but the house could benefit from an instruction manual for heating and hot water etc, how to work the oven, what to do with recycling etc. And I found Bolthole Retreats were not great with customer service - I had to chase everything - confirmation my booking had been made, the welcome back, confirmation my final balance had been received etc. The only proactive email I had was to ask for the final balance! When I emailed each time they were promptly replied to but I shouldn't have had to do this.

Great for large families/friends get togethers

Lovely old farmhouse with modern kitchen and utility and some modern ensuites. Plenty of room for eating and relaxing especially with the fireplaces that can be used. Heating was a bit random and often bedrooms and bathrooms were cold, especially the attic bedrooms. A well equipped kitchen but it could do with more chopping knives and boards. Some fixtures need attention such as plug holes that didn't work, toilet roll and towel holders that kept falling off. Great location in the centre of Winchcombe, easy to walk to town and to the GWR station and easy and free access to Sudeley Castle. A lovely place to stay, would highly recommend.

An amazing venue in a beautiful location

We had booked the farmhouse during the beast from the east snow storm and getting to Winchcombe was difficult as 2 of the main routes to the town were closed. We finally made it through luck and perseverance and we are so glad we did.
The house was in a great location, 5 mins walk to the town, 7 mins to the pub and 10 mins to the castle. In the snow the surrounds looked like a picture post card.
Inside, the house it was exactly what we wanted. We paid for the farmhouse experience and this was what we got. A comfortable and cosy space with fireplaces and log burners throughout the house. The uneven floors upstairs and crazy leaning door ways only added to the fun. The large sitting and dining room made the house a great space for 60th birthday party we attended.
The indoor space is also great for young children. Our son (aged 20 months) loved running through the corridors and jumping on the bean bags.
We would love to stay again for another family event.

Perfect property for our group

A beautiful house, the photos were spot on. Well equipped kitchen with plenty of mugs, glasses, crockery, pans, etc. Beds were comfortable with nice linen. It really was lovely and reasonably priced I think.
Just a couple of very small niggles, there was no hand soap in the kitchen, downstairs loo and main bathroom on the first floor. Also no firelighters or kindling so we could light the fires. And no instructions about how to deal with the rubbish and recycling.
But overall we were very happy and would be happy to return or recommend.

The Perfect Gathering Place

This was the perfect place for our large family to gather; charming bedrooms, good showers, large family kitchen incredibly well equipped, cosy reception rooms and all on the doorstep of delightful Winchcombe with its beautiful walks and beautiful town.
Rebecca at Bolthole was fantastic!

A wonderful house for a large family in an excellent location

Almsbury famhouse is a spacious and very well equipped and maintained house It is within walking distance of both the delightful town of Winchcombe and Sudeley castle. We had plenty of space for 9 adults and 4 children: it has so many rooms including 5 bathrooms. It is set in spacious grounds but also has a walled garden that is safe for little children
